More and more seniors are logging onto the Internet to search for health information. This makes those older than sixty-five the fastest growing group online. Seniors on the Move provides a video-rich program that gently guides viewers through the process of making an activity plan and overcoming barriers to exercise.
Designed especially for the large percentage of older adults who are inactive (50% of women and 33% of men), this program has viewers select activities from unusual lists such as “things that are easy on arthritis,” “things that are free or low cost,” “things that get something else accomplished,” and “things I can do with a friend.” Activities include flexibility, balance, and strengthening and fitness and are promoted in small doses — “sneaking physical activity into your life.” In a clinical trial, Seniors on the Move was shown to successfully motivate sedentary older adults to become more physically active.
