Nonverbal cues are not enough to express personal limits. Many teen pregnancies occur because the couple was not able to negotiate the use of protection. What Do You Say? follows a group of students working in pairs to make a report about pregnancy prevention. During the course of the assignment they view videos about relationships and come to realize that being ready to have sex includes being able to talk with a partner about protection. By watching the stories, teens learn that males and females are equally responsible for bringing up the topic and that open and honest communication leads to a closer, more mature relationship.
The Teacher’s Guide for What Do You Say? includes discussion questions and answers, a lesson plan, ready-to-copy handouts, and additional suggested activities. Although it is set up for a group presentation, this program can also be viewed by individuals at home, in medical clinics, at school, or in the library.
What Do You Say? is part of a four-video package about avoiding teen pregnancy.
