Professional Dementia Care: Solving Problems

This is the second module in the Professional Caregiver series. In this module, caregivers learn to spot situations, words, and behaviors that often lead to problems. Techniques are presented for solving problems and even preventing problems before they occur.
Skills demonstrated include:
- Interpreting expressions and body language
- Understanding facility environmental issues
- Using the three P’s—Patience, Persistence and Prevention
There are 3 VHS tapes in this module. Each is a stand-alone lesson. The first tape in Solving Problems is What’s the Problem? It teaches caregivers to read the clues that often mean that trouble is brewing. Your staff learns to assess facial expression, words, body language and environmental factors. In What’s the Solution? caregivers learn to interpret these clues and use them to create meaningful solutions. Preventing Problems teaches caregivers to use the three P’s—Patience, Persistence and Prevention—to spot problems ahead of time and address them before they get out of hand.
The Facilitator’s Guide walks the trainer through each tape, with cues for when to pause and resume, and offers discussion prompts to maximize trainee ability to absorb and apply the skills presented. Quiz questions are included to ensure caregiver comprehension.
Like all of our professional caregiver training modules, Solving Problems is ideal for inservice training. It comes with a ready-to-use Facilitator’s Guide that includes quizzes, handouts, and lesson plans.
