In this program, 3-D animations illustrate the mechanics of the spine, and a simple questionnaire helps viewers identify their own back-pain pattern. Based on the viewer’s answers, the program makes specific recommendations for relief and prevention. The viewer learns first aid, stretching, and postural strategies for immediate control of pain. Ongoing techniques for lifting, conditioning, controlling stress, and general lifestyle activities are also presented. The program includes a special module for pregnancy and back pain as well as information about getting professional help, including prescriptions, physical therapy, massage, yoga, chiropractic aid, acupuncture, and surgery. Guidelines show viewers how to identify symptoms that indicate the need for medical care. This program was a joint effort by the Oregon Center for Applied Science, Inc., and the Canadian Back Institute.
